The Township of Langley has been pursuing Sustainability since 1990, when the community began the Langley Tomorrow Program to establish a Corporate Mission Statement and set of high level goals and objectives. These goals and objectives are constantly evaluated or validated by a series of community surveys. The last Langley Tomorrow Survey was conducted just a year ago in November 2006.In (October) 2005, Council received the Towards Sustainability publication, which formed the background research. The publication is available online and has been referred to Council-appointed committees and commissions for comment. In (November) 2006, Council received Report 06-214, which outlined a work program for development of the Sustainability Charter. In 2007, we hosted a Sustainability Expert Panel in May and a Community Workshop in June. These activities provided community input for the preparation of the draft Sustainability Charter which we presented in March 2008.During the last two months, we had Sustainability Open Houses and Cafes where we obtained input from staff and the community at large.
