Slideshow transcript

Slide 1: Icebergs from Antarctica

Slide 2: Icebergs in the Antarctic area sometimes have stripes, formed by layers of snow that react to different conditions.

Slide 3: Blue stripes are often created when sea water freezes so quickly in a crevice in the ice sheet that no bubbles form.

Slide 4: A green stripe forms when an iceberg falls into algae-rich sea and a layer of water freezes to the underside.

Slide 5: Brown, black and yellow lines are caused by sediment, picked up when the ice sheet grinds downhill towards the sea.

Slide 9: The water freezes in mid-air as the wave breaks through the ice.
