They advice to be true, but it is Google's PR campaign. There are a lot of Google's PR, they try to get monopoly over the Internet. Don't you think that company, that earns with ADS, is much worse than company, that takes one-time payment? 'Stupids pay always'.

These words are all very nice but are they actionable? Where are the great case studies?

  • guest38e5b2
guest38e5b2 said 4 months Edit Delete

Source? Oh, and by the way, what exactly is 'social' and 'conversational' about a company publishing a blog? Isn't this functionally equivalent to a newsletter? It being well known of course that the revolutionary media of newsletters revolutionised marketing.

  • guest38e5b2
guest38e5b2 said 4 months Edit Delete

    Source?

  • guest38e5b2
guest38e5b2 said 4 months Edit Delete

Aha! A quoted source. Does this mean the source of all the other 'facts' is google? This statistic sounds convincing, of course, but covers up the obvious truth that this was also true before Myspace and Facebook existed.

  • guest38e5b2
guest38e5b2 said 4 months Edit Delete

What is the source of this data? By the way, this has always been the case, and people don't trust advertisements no matter what form they take. Advertising on social media will still be consumed as 'advertising' no matter what buzz words you use to describe it.

  • guest38e5b2
guest38e5b2 said 4 months Edit Delete

What is the source for this data? By the way, Jupiter research data quotes that only 15% of viral campaigns generate any positive word-of-mouth, let alone any ROI, so TV still beats social media even if this statistic is true, which we have no reason to believe as no source is quoted...

  • guest38e5b2

    Excellent presentation.

There are 2 tools I use to 'listen' to conversation that I think all companies should look at:

    - search.twitter.com: listening to the mood of people you care about (not just what they do but what is in their mind.

    - eCairn: listening to blogs - same idea as twitter, but this is not just mood any more, as blog posts take a little more time to write, and tend to capture attention over a longer period of time

    Hi.

As per your point #4), what about this BMW case? http://chasnote.com/2008/04/04/bmw-graffiti-contest-gives...

When you're talking about advertising, you have no exact, quantifiable results regarding your sales. The most important thing is make the people talk about you, and talk about you, and.. (some would say: no matter how).

As John Wanamaker said it well: 'Half the money I spend on advertising is wasted; the trouble is I don't know which half.'

  • guest38e5b2
guest38e5b2 said 4 months Edit Delete

    FAIL.

Makes the exact same error that every other member of the OMG Social Media XD XD hivemind makes.

    1) People have never trusted advertising, or claimed to be affected by it, but despite this there are thousands of case studies to show it works.
    2) Conversations existed before the internet, dumbass, that's why people have mouths and ears. The only difference is they're happening in a different place.
    3) Just because people occasionally mention brands on social networks does not mean that you can use that to effectively market your brand.
    4) Pointing at a site and saying 'starbucks uses social media' is NOT a case study. A case study has proven, quantifiable results. There are NO social media case studies.

Good use of space and visuals. Especially like how key numbers are highlighted through a different color. However presentation could have focused more on the latter half which has some very good action steps to tap into social media. First half just tells us that social media is big which is not news. Almost every second presentation is talking about how social media is the next big thing.

Almsot but one big error. It says 'Social Media is people having conversation online.' Nope. Social Media is people having conversation. Period. No matter where, how and all. IMs and Phones, Blog comments and Newspaper's Reader letters, they all are social media.
It's not the online that makes it social, or media. It's the people.
