3. Slide 3: Extremely slim celebrities are being broadcasted on television and, eventually, reaches the attention of young teenagers.
4. Slide 4: Young viewers are easily influenced by the messages portrayed by the media (girl throws away her ice cream cone and now has new thoughts to be skinny!)
5. Slide 6: Hospitalizations for eating disorders in general hospitals per 100,000 by age group, Canada, 1999/2000 The affects of eating disorders is greatly noticeable in the adolescence age group (15-19 years of age).
6. Slide 7: How common is anorexia? Anorexia is not a common disorder. It affects only 5 to 10 people out of every 100,000 people. However, it may be a growing problem.
7. Slide 9: Reaching the unreachable... As people strive to accomplish these diet goals they use up immense amounts of their time, money and energy. More and more females nowadays are trying the popular weight-loss diets being broadcast on TV, the radio, internet ads, and billboards or they may have simply heard it from the word of mouth. Many of these highly promoted diets are ineffective and would create many unexpected and undesirable side-effects as people become addicted to losing weight. Not only are female celebrities obstructing us with their perfect slender bodies, male celebrities do the same to us as well. They are oriented in another type of body image - the buff and muscular image. As females will undertake ridiculous diets and take expensive diet pills, many males will go on steroids or spend hours and hours of their day in the gym trying to obtain the ‘perfect’ image... reaching the unreachable
