Stop for a moment, shall we?? I am lagging behind. May I ask millons of questions?
Change might make life even more wonderful, vivid and challanging, BUT seriously, hands up if you can follow these 'shifts'.
Is it really necessary to internalise everything, knowing the fact that it won't be relevant tommorow?
Or should I be nonchalant? My eyes are just too tired...
Thank you for the presentation! -

Also FYI, China and India will soon have over 200,000,000 men in their Armies and will invade Israel.. This can be 'proved' (one 'O') by reading Revelation.. Where will you be?? Shift happens!!

guestff7c4d said 4 months Edit DeleteIt's easy to gather ANY kind of statistical data prooving ANY theory in the world so this kind of presetation is neither great or inspiring - during a regular journalistic research job you found dozens of (not necessarily) fabricated facts, theories or data narrowed to a particular problem. This presentation is a prime example of living in the digital age, and this self-reference is it's only value, because it's so easy to make it and visuals are just average (arial/helvetica, simple stock images, etc).
I could make a presentation titled, say, Shit Happens - where i would proove that we're all living in shit and will die soon. HEre's some basic facts gathered in 2 minutes while writing this pos. You can easily found 50 in 15 more minutes.
- more than one out of six people lack access to safe drinking water, namely 1.1 billion people - that's exactly the number of people which inhabited earth in 1825.
- more than two out of six lack adequate sanitation, namely 2.6 billion people - this is precisely the number that inhabitet earth in 1950.
- china and india combined constitute of 1/4th of the whole globe population. the total population in africa will triple in the next 25 years.
- highly developed societies are getting old much quicker that developing and poor countries overpopulate.
- by 2050 will constitute of no more than 10% of all Earth population
- asia and africa together will constitute of about 50% of world population in less than 30 years.
- by 2030 when China's population reaches 1.6 billion, per capita water resources will drop to 1,760 cubic meters
- perilously close to 1, 700 cubic meters, the internationally recognized benchmark for water shortages.
- in Africa it already happened.
- Nearly 450 million people in 29 countries currently face severe water shortages.
- 20 percent more water than is now available will be needed to feed the additional three billion people who will be alive by 2025 - As much as two-thirds of the world pop
- yet even now half the world — nearly three billion people — live on less than two dollars a day.
- Around 27-28 percent of all children in developing countries are estimated to be underweight or stunted.
- About 40-50% of children in highly developed countries suffer from obesity
- Nearly a billion people entered the 21st century unable to read a book or sign their names.Source
Number of children in the world - 2.2 billion
Number in poverty - 1 billion (every second child)
- 1.6 billion people — a quarter of humanity — live without electricity
- This number is not decreasing
global priorities (in billions usd)
Cigarettes in Europe 50
Alcoholic drinks in Europe 105
Narcotics drugs in the world 400
Military spending in the world 780
Global Priority $U.S. Billions
Basic education for all 6
Water and sanitation for all 9
Reproductive health for all women 12
Basic health and nutrition 13
now every 6th child has a chance of living in good conditions. by 2050 only 10% will have a chance to be well educated.
shit happens!
now make your homweork, find 25 more facts and send it to the competition. i've got arial fonts on my comp, can send you. -

I feel very sorry for the United stats, realy, but this is the real world. The wonderful part of the slideshow is that it has no feear to express what the state and situation is all about right now. But it also brings Americ athe numbers and figures of hope for a future that can be made back to stand the US back up on its feet, if as Americans we are willing to build the miracle

The original slide by Karl Fisch started a meaningful project:
http://shifthappens.wikispaces.com
Jeff Brenma has Karl Fisch permission to edit his work.
http://thefischbowl.blogspot.com/2007/05/worlds-best-pres...
And anything about the reference and sources of the slide can be read off:
http://thefischbowl.blogspot.com/2006/08/did-you-know.html -
-
guestd4fb8a said 7 months Edit Deletefor those of you wondering the point behind this slideshow, it's actually a rip off of the Karl Fisch flash video that focuses on the points copied here, but makes a comment on the current state of the education system. It's called Did you know/ Shift happens and can be seen here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ljbI-363A2Q&feature=related
and there is also an updated and much prettier version of it that came out later:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pMcfrLYDm2U&feature=related
watch these videos/presentations to the end to understand the message.
I'm still unsure as to what the author of this slideshow contributed, apart from changing a few fonts and colours, its' the same presentation really. -

Regardless of how insignificant you think this information is, this must have taken quite a while to compile. Nice work. It was interesting to me, and I agree totally. Technology is evolving much faster than human evolution.
-
guest1c6d33 said 8 months Edit DeleteSo what? So he assembled some 'sound bites' and made some slides/gave a speech. I seem to have missed the point though, this all seems so blah. For example the average Myspace page gets 30 visits a day, this is meaningless (perhaps his speech explained it?). It could be 30 from the page owner, it could be 20 from the owner and 10 from two friends. On it's own, it's junk information

guestcbf935 said 10 months Edit DeleteTo Guest504f8e all I can say is that you clearly have not read the slides properly. It states that the 25% of the population of China 'with the highest IQ' which OBVIOUSLY means the 25% with the HIGHEST IQ... how do you not know what this means if you have 2 degrees? As for your comments on research and development for education, it is just amazing how someone who claims to be so well educated sees no point in developing the methods of educating others. research and development are KEY factors to teaching. Its a case of updating teaching methods, how information is delivered and what information is delivered. You seem to be the one taking it 'all out of context' by refusing to accept what the slide show has to tell us.
