I received the same presentation today but mine ended at Slide 24 with message that 80% of people who read this will try to suck heir elbow. Why try to suck elbow? It is the most likely place to have food stuck on while eating with them on table?

There's a lot of bullshit in this 'Did you know?' quiz. Some 'facts' are proven wrong and some are just unverified.

    2. There are thousands of animals that cannot jump: worms, snakes, fish, etc. etc. Maybe the only 4-legged mammal (dolphins are mammals too but cannot jump, per se) but I wouldn't be too sure about that either.

    3. The tongue has 16 muscles, none of which is the body's strongest.

    5. 'Statistically, people are more afraid of spiders than they are of dying'? Did the statistician only interview arachnophobics? Even then, I find it very unlikely!

    10. If 'Humans and Dolphins are the only animals that have sex for pleasure' then how come pigs have 30 minutes orgasms? (Boy, I wish I was a pig! J )

    11. A duck's quack has no echoe? Debatable: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/science/nature/3086890.stm

    12. 'Each King on playing cards represents a King in real history'. Assigning identities to cards was a practice unique to French for a while in a distant past, had nothing to do with David, Alexander the Great or Julius Cesar (who was a Roman Dictator, not a king) and was discontinued in the 18th century. The figures on modern playing cards are not any more real than the kings and queens in the chess set.

    13. Closing your eyes when you sneeze comes naturally and everybody follows the natural reflex but it's not impossible to sneeze with your eyes open if you really put your mind to it.

    16. The thing with the 'number of horse legs in the air' code in statues is false. There are lots and lots of statues that don't follow the rule out there. Besides, there are more ways heroes can die than horses have legs, even assuming they can have 3 or 4 of them legs in the air. Romanian hero Mihai Viteazul was assasinated, which doesn't qualify as combat, injury from combat or natural cause. (His statue horse has 1 leg in the air)

    20. The origin of the F word as 'Fornication Under Consent of the King' is false. The very thought of people asking the King's permission to f..k is hilarious!

    21. Same for 'kangaroo'.

    23. Same for 'OK'

    22. There are a lot of your body parts that you cannot suck. Why does the elbow qualify as such an interesting fact?

It was very interesting I had to read it many times because I did not want to believe few things. These facts can be very useful in a dialogue when you want to say something interesting.

This is a nice story but totally untrue... read the wikipedia entry for this word for a whole load of other supposed (and untrue) origins of the word.

    Cool Facts.
I think you should also quote the source of these facts, this would make it more authentic.

I like your slideshow. So interesting to know how things come about. Thanks!

I read Whoopi Goldberg book and she says it means 'Fornication under (or with) carnal knowledge' and people would be put in this contraption with their head and hands sticking out with the sign on them in the public square...if I remember correctly. I'm sure there's all kinds of history behind that word.

  • YolandaCrisostomo

Crazy how that happens. Just like the Native Americans were called Indians when really they aren't Indians. Funny how even though the word is wrong it carries on because people just get used to it.
